A major change was witnessed in Haryana politics today. Senior state leader and former minister Prof. Sampat Singh, along with his son Gaurav Sampat, created a political stir by joining the Indian National Lok Dal. The INLD chief Abhay Singh Chautala named him the National Patron of the party, while Gaurav Sampat was given an important role in the youth wing. Earlier, Sampat Singh had resigned from the Congress and leveled serious allegations against the National President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Scathing attack on the Congress – “Vote theft is Congress’s legacy”

While joining the INLD, Sampat Singh targeted the Congress leadership. He said, “Congress was the one who started the voting fraud in Haryana,” and blamed the former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for it directly. He cited Ajay Maken’s defeat in the 2022 Rajya Sabha elections as an example.

Sampat Singh quipped that “Congress steals not just votes, but also tickets” – loyal leaders were ignored after 2019 and Deepender Hooda was sent to the Rajya Sabha. As per him, the party has now become a hostage to a single family where respect for dedicated workers has eroded.

He attacked the policies of the BJP and also raised questions on privatization.

Prof. Sampat Singh also attacked the BJP’s policies. He said that the present regime promoted privatization in every sector, which severely affected services like education and health.

He said, “Universities are not getting grants, government hospitals are in a deplorable state and the poor are unable to get treatments.” Sampat Singh alleges that the entire opposition has fallen under the influence of the BJP and has distanced itself from farmers’ issues.

“Returning to INLD is a step of self-improvement for me.”

Sampat Singh said, “When I left the INLD 16 years ago, it was a mistake. Even now, when I return, I feel the same.” He explained, “There is neither respect nor principles left in the Congress.”

He said that Devi Lal and Om Prakash Chautala always respected him, and now it is his responsibility to strengthen INLD again and bring back old colleagues.

He confirmed that Congress state president Rao Narendra Singh asked him to stay on, but he refused. “Now both ideas and respect have vanished there,” he said. Prof. Sampat Singh’s decision to rejoin the party marks a new phase of vibrancy in the INLD. This move may also determine the fate of many leaders dissatisfied with the Congress.
